      <description><![CDATA[The pub on the corner is called The Empress, and its facade is on the cover of Ringo Starr's first solo album. Elsie Starkey pulled pints behind that bar for years. Next door, at number 10 Admiral Grove, her son Richard lived in a two-up two-down terrace from the age of three until he was twenty-three. He was a sickly child, often absent from school, taught to read and write at home. When Beatlemania hit, the BBC filmed him being mobbed outside this front door, on his way to a sports car driven by George Harrison.]]></description>
