On one side stood the Imperial Brazilian Army; on the other, the combined cavalry and infantry of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata and their Oriental allies. By the time the smoke cleared, hundreds of soldiers lay dead in the grass, and the battle that history would call Ituzaingo had quietly tilted the map of South America.]]></description>
