Catanduva sits in the north of São Paulo state, 115,785 people spread across 290.59 square kilometres of red earth and sugarcane, and it makes fans - millions of them a year, in a cluster of factories dense enough that studies of the local industry have put its share of national production as high as 90 percent. The place calls itself the capital nacional do ventilador, and for once the municipal boast holds up.]]></description>
