      <description><![CDATA[The name came before the town, before Spain, before almost anything you could put a date to. Cocentaina takes its name from the Contestani, the Iberian tribe that lived across this corner of the peninsula long before Rome or Islam arrived. People have occupied these hillsides since Paleolithic times, a fact written on the rock in nearby cave paintings. Modern Cocentaina, a town of some 11,500 at the foot of the Serra Mariola, wears all of that lightly, going about its business of cloth and commerce beneath a castle and a millennia-deep past.]]></description>
