Photo credit Colin, CC BY-SA 4.0. You can take his fingerprints. That single fact separates Grauballe Man from almost every other human being who died more than two thousand years ago. The skin of his hands and feet survived the peat so completely that investigators rolled his fingertips after excavation and got usable ridge patterns from a man who was killed somewhere between 321 and 261 BC. Everything about him is unnervingly specific: the reddened hair, the worn teeth, the wide cut that opens his throat from one ear to the other.
