That is an odd thing to be famous for at eight degrees south of the equator, an hour and a half from the beaches of Recife, in a state otherwise associated with sun and salt. The explanation is 447 metres of altitude. Up here the annual average temperature sits around 22°C and the coldest nights fall to roughly 15 — nothing a European would call cold, and everything a coastal Pernambucano would. Gravatá sells temperature. Its entire resort economy rests on the plain fact of being cooler than home.
