Around the old market hall on Tuấn Phủ Đạt, opposite the floating restaurant moored on the Đông Hồ inlet, a night market unfolds after dark: cotton shirts stacked on trestle tables, costume jewellery, souvenirs, food stalls wedged in among them. Along Trần Hầu Street the open-air kitchens face the water and grill squid and snails late into the night. This is the last real town on Vietnam's southwestern coast, and it behaves like one.
