The main road into town is called Redrooffs Road, and it is named after a resort that is no longer there - a cluster of cabins, every one of them roofed in red, which locals used as a landmark until the landmark itself stopped existing and only the directions survived. That is a fairly Sunshine Coast way to organize a place. Halfmoon Bay is a crescent of water on the mainland shore northwest of Sechelt, sheltered behind South Thormanby Island, with the bulk of Vancouver Island standing off beyond the Strait of Georgia to take the weather first. About 2,800 people call it home, though a good share of them only in summer.
