Photo credit Finn Rindahl, CC BY-SA 3.0. At half past six on the evening of 10 May 1940, a ship people recognised came up the Ranfjorden toward Hemnesberget flying Norwegian colours. Holding the village was a single platoon of British troops from No. 1 Independent Company. The fighting in the streets of Hemnesberget lasted roughly an hour.
