      <description><![CDATA[The jabuticaba does something no orchard fruit is supposed to do. It does not hang from branches. It erupts directly from the trunk and the thick limbs, dark purple globes packed so densely against the bark that a fruiting tree looks as though it has been beaded by hand overnight. The fruit lasts three or four days off the tree and then it is gone, which is why almost nobody outside Brazil has tasted one. A grove of these trees once stood on the high red ground of northeastern São Paulo state, and the town that grew up among them took the name: Jaboticabal, the place of the jabuticabas.]]></description>
