They had been living on cheap land between the forks of Mike's Run, off Patterson's Creek in what was then Hampshire County, Virginia - now Mineral County, West Virginia. In March 1784, the family sold up and set off on the Wilderness Road, headed for Kentucky through the Cumberland Gap. None of the Hanks knew that one of the children they were carrying west would, in turn, mother the President of the United States.]]></description>
