Karuna Church: Introduction

It stands on a wooded island in Helsinki, roughly 130 kilometres east, where it is the oldest building in the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum and where couples still book it for summer weddings. Moving it took a dismantling crew and the year 1912. What stands in Karuna instead is a low, heavy block of local grey granite that has been called one of the most successful and most beautiful National Romantic churches in Finland - and that, because of where it is, almost no traveller ever sees.
