The four passages that define Maurelle Island were named by people who had to get boats through them, and the names are less description than warning. This is an island in the Discovery Islands of British Columbia, wedged into the archipelago between Vancouver Island and the mainland, at the point where the wide Strait of Georgia begins to constrict toward Johnstone Strait. Everything that flows between those two bodies of water has to squeeze past here. Twice a day, in each direction, it does.
