Photo credit RhinoMind, CC BY-SA 4.0. On a warm Saturday the roof of Moesgaard Museum disappears under people. They lie on the grass, unpack lunch, roll downhill; in winter they bring sledges. Henning Larsen Architects cut the building into a south-facing slope in the wooded country below Aarhus and then covered its roof with meadow, sloping it back into the hill so that the whole thing reads as landscape rather than architecture. Anyone can walk up it, free, without going inside. It is a strange gesture for a museum whose main business is what people buried in this ground two and three thousand years ago — and it works, because the ground is the point.
