Niede Guidon had arrived in this corner of Piaui in 1973, a Brazilian archaeologist with a Sorbonne doctorate and no particular reason to stay in a town of a few thousand people at the dry end of the sertao. She stayed fifty-two years. She died there on 4 June 2025, aged 92. The Museu do Homem Americano — the Museum of the American Man — is the most visible thing she left behind, and the least of it.]]></description>
