Between 1939 and 1945 roughly 3,900 people were held here and set to work rebuilding a castle for Heinrich Himmler, and almost a third of them did not survive it. The recorded deaths number 1,285. The castle stands a few hundred metres away, restored, with a youth hostel in it.]]></description>
