Drop a weighted line into any of its basins and it kept going, past whatever length of cord you had brought. When echo sounders finally traced the floor, they found not one hole but three: the throats of three old volcanoes, joined below the waterline, two of them linked by a broad underwater strait. Silt has flattened all of it since. Bien Ho now averages about nineteen metres in its two main basins and roughly twelve in the third, and the name has outlived the fact.]]></description>
