Ramsey Grammar School was the first full comprehensive school in the British Isles. There had been grammar teaching in Ramsey since 1681 - older than most American cities, older than the United Kingdom itself - but the 1946 reopening was something different. It was a bet that selection was not the only way to educate a generation.
