Six weeks earlier the King had lost the Battle of Naseby and his field army with it; Hereford was now one of the last Royalist strongholds in the west. The Scots had just taken Carlisle. They were allies of the English Parliament, fighting under the Solemn League and Covenant. And they were here to finish what Naseby had started.]]></description>
