Oliver Goldsmith, author of The Vicar of Wakefield and She Stoops to Conquer, was a pupil at the Elphin Diocesan School in the 1730s - and the Elphin school later merged into what is now Sligo Grammar. The institution has been quietly turning out artists, editors, translators, and props forwards for longer than the United States has existed.
