      <description><![CDATA[On 10 February 1955, the last ships left. They loaded at the mouth of the Ông Đốc river, on the Gulf of Thailand coast of Cà Mau, carrying southern cadres north under the terms of the Geneva Accords — the final sailing of a regroupment that was supposed to last two years, until nationwide elections settled the question of who governed Vietnam. The elections were never held. Families who waved from this shoreline expecting a two-year separation would wait twenty, and many of the people on those decks never saw this river again. Sông Đốc is now a working fishing town of some 47,000, and it is still, first and last, a place people leave from and come back to by water.]]></description>
