Sprogø sits in the middle of the Great Belt, 6.7 kilometres from the Zealand shore and eight from Funen, with cold, fast water in between. From 1923 until 1961 it held about fifty women at a time. Roughly five hundred passed through altogether. None of them had been tried for anything.]]></description>
