There were ten public houses on the streets between the parish church and the Plain-an-Gwarry. When the tin collapsed, half the town emigrated; St Just families went to Bendigo in Victoria, to Nevada City in California, to Wisconsin and South Africa and South Australia, taking Cornish mining skills with them. The town that survived is small now, walked through in twenty minutes, but it has not forgotten what it once was.
