The sanctuary had been created on 9 May 2016 by Sub-decree No. 80, drawing a line around 1,442.75 square kilometres of the Cardamom Mountains in Koh Kong province - rivers, mangrove estuary, and some of the best-preserved rainforest left in mainland Southeast Asia. In March 2021 a second sub-decree redrew the line inward. It was not a technical adjustment at the margins, and Tatai was not the only one.]]></description>
