It was here before the bridge. Inigo Jones designed the elegant three-arched span in 1636; the building beside it had already stood for more than a century by then. Today the whole structure is wrapped, every autumn, in Boston ivy that turns from green through orange to violent crimson against the grey stone - one of the most photographed buildings in Wales, currently a working tearoom run on a National Trust lease.
