Turn Point Light Station: Introduction

Vessels working up Haro Strait between the San Juan Islands and Vancouver Island reach the western tip of Stuart Island and have to alter course, and they have been doing so, in fog and in darkness, since long before anyone put a light here. The station that now marks the corner has stood since 1893, and it is still an active aid to navigation, which is a plain way of saying that the reason it was built has never gone away.
