      <description><![CDATA[Ubajara means, in Tupi, something like lord of canoes - ubá for canoe, îara for master. It is a strange name for a town perched 847 metres up on a sandstone plateau, a long way above anything a canoe could use. Locals prefer the other reading: canoa da mãe-d'água, the water-mother's canoe, tied to an old story about a chief who lived in the cave below the escarpment. Either way, the name arrived before the town did, and the cave has been shaping the place ever since.]]></description>
