The figure on the instrument was minus 52.6 degrees Celsius. Six decades on, nothing measured at an official Swedish weather station has beaten it, and this small cluster of buildings on a lake shore in the Arjeplog mountains, a shade north of the Arctic Circle, still holds the coldest entry in the country's record book.
