Engineers checked the deck. The university said the sway was safe. Then in 1988, fans noticed a different pattern: a rippling wave across the upper deck whenever the marching band played Louie Louie. Giant shock absorbers had already been installed. Even so, when 85,000 South Carolina fans jump up and down on a Saturday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium, the building still moves with them, and parts of the press box have been known to vibrate audibly.]]></description>
